Diving coach Yukun rubbishes claims of communication problem with Brooker

KUALA LUMPUR: Interim national diving head coach Zhang Yukun has rubbished claims that language will be an issue when working together with newly appointed coach Christian Brooker.

Yukun, who speaks very little English, said he does not see communicating with the Australian as a problem with there being many ways around the language barrier.

"I am looking forward to working together with Christian in a new environment," said Yukun, at a press conference in Bukit Jalil today.

"He has been here for a while now and we have a decent understanding, I do not think language will be a problem for us.

"Technology has gone a long way and we can use our phones to translate, the divers have also translated for us.

"Both of us are also working hard to learn each other’s language, so it should not be a huge barrier, there is nothing to worry about."

Yukun added that the focus for now will be on stabilising the team and preparing for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

"Right now we have to move on and look into what we can do. We will maintain whatever is good.

"We have to make sure all the divers are mentally and emotionally stable and focused on doing what needs to be done to prepare for the Commonwealth Games."

Yukun had previously assisted former national head coach Yang Zhuliang, whose contract was not been renewed following various allegations.
