Camille dumps Nicol out of New York

KUALA LUMPUR: Camille Serme halted Nicol David's Tournament of Champions campaign in the quarter-finals on Tuesday after failing to build on a bright start in New York.

Defending champion Camille rallied from a game down to win 2-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-5 in 50 minutes for her second win over former World No 1 Nicol in 20 meetings.

After breezing through the first game for the loss of just two points, World No 6 Nicol trailed 10-7 in the second before forcing a tie-break thanks to two tins by France’s Camille.

But World No 3 Camille held her nerve to draw level at one-game all before taking the next two games to book her semi-final spot.

"Nicol was so strong in the first game, I wasn’t ready," said Camille.

"It was such a big fight today, mentally I had to push very far and I’m just happy I came back."

The defeat extends eight-time world champion Nicol's run of failing to reach the semi-finals of PSA World Series tournaments to seven since the British Open in March last year.
