Two deputy chef de mission appointed for Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin and National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail have been named as Malaysia’s chefs de mission for the Indonesia Asian Games in August.

"We have appointed both Megat Zulkarnain and Shapawi as the games will be held in Palembang and Jakarta,” said OCM president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, after chairing the board meeting on Tuesday.

The outgoing president then explained that the date for the OCM annual general meeting (AGM) will only be fixed upon the council’s approval. They will meet on March 31.

"We will table a proposed date for the AGM at our council meeting, which will be attended by National Sports Associations’ representatives," said Tunku Imran.

He also confirmed that OCM have received the report on last year’s Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur from chef de mission Datuk Marina Chin, as well as the report for the recent Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang from Datuk Mumtaz Jaafar.

Other matters discussed at the board meeting include OCM's strong stand on harassment and abuse in sports

Huang Ying How, the Commonwealth Games’ chef de mission, also gave a presentation on a toolkit in line with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines and policy.

Tunku Imran said OCM will adapt these guidelines and policies, and will test it out first in the Gold Coast on Apr 4-15.
