Mun Yee not disappointed with Beijing performance

KUALA LUMPUR: National diver Leong Mun Yee is confident that her partnership with Nur Dhabitah Sabri in the women’s 3m springboard synchro will get better following the failure to finish on the podium at the just-concluded Beijing leg of the World Series.

The veteran diver did not set a target as it was her first experience pairing up with Dhabitah in the event.

Mun Yee is being groomed for the synchro event as Dhabitah’s partner Wendy Ng is serving a doping suspension.

“I think we did good. Our coach (Zhang Yukun) was happy with our performance.

“It was our first experience together as a pair. I am still adapting to springboard events as my forte is the platform,” Mun Yee.

The Ipoh-born and Dhabitah amassed 282.84 points to finish fifth in Beijing.

China’s Yiwen Chen-Wang Han won the gold medal with 336.12 points, followed by Australia’s Esther Qin-Anabelle Smith (297.60) and Canada’s Jennifer Abel-Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu (292.74).

Mun Yee disclosed that preparations were not that good for the event.

“I am a replacement for Wendy, so I did not prepare well. I need more training time with Dhabitah to master the event.

“I am not sure on whether this partnership will be a long term thing, but I will train hard for the next World Series stop in Fuji, Japan this weekend,” she added.
