KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's hockey team defeated Japan's Under-21 side 4-1 in their third friendly at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.
Malaysia lost 3-1 in the first friendly before they defeated their rivals by the same scoreline in the second. They will wrap-up the series with a final game on Thursday.
It is part of the women’s team preparations for next month’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where they are in Group A with England, India, South Africa and Wales.
Coach K. Dharmaraj was not too happy with the performance despite his team’s comfortable win on Thursday.
“We only scored four goals from 21 chances while Japan only had three or four opportunities.
“We did not convert our chances today... it was the same when we lost the first match.
“We need to be more sharp if we hope to beat our opponents at the Commonwealth Games.
Dharmaraj said he will name his final-18 soon as he is still assessing a few more players.
Malaysia scored through Nuraslinda Said (20th minute), Nur Amirah Shakirah (28th), Nuraini Abdul Rashid (42nd) and Nur Nabihah Mansur (47th).
Miyu Suzuki scored for Japan in the fourth minute.
