Julian eye PB at Milan World Championships

KUALA LUMPUR: Figure skater Julian Yee hopes to build on his positive early performance when he takes to the rink for the free skating final at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Milan on Saturday.

Julian, the first Malaysian skater to compete in a Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last month, finished 21st with 72.43 points in Friday’s short programme round.

The 20-year-old, who came in 25th in Pyeongchang, said he is pleased with his performance.

"I think I did good overall in the short programme, especially with my last two jumps," said Julian.

"My first jump was a bit shaky, probably due to nerves, but in the end I pulled through and managed a score which was quite decent I'd say.

"In the upcoming free skate — my main goal is to just put out a clean programme and see if I can improve my personal best."

His personal best in the free skating event is 148.74 which he achieved at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany last year.

Julian is currently based in Canada where he trains under German coach Michael Hopfes.
