Hamidin will not contest OCM deputy president's post

KUALA LUMPUR: Current FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin has finally confirmed that he will not contest for the post of Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president this coming May 5.

Hamidin verified it via a statement on FAM’s official Facebook account earlier today (Friday) and he explained that the decision was made as such because he wants to focus completely on the country’s fooball governing body.

“After holding discussions with FAM’s executive committee members and getting advice from former FAM president, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, I am officially stating that I will not contest for the post of OCM deputy president.

“Even though there was rife speculation in the media before this that a few sports associations wanted to nominate me for the post, I am stating that for now, I am not interested in holding any post in OCM.

“I have made such a decision because I intend on giving attention and absolute focus towards Malaysian football, specifically FAM, if at all I am chosen to be FAM’s next president for the 2018-2021 term at the congress which is scheduled to take place on July 14,” said Hamidin.

Before this, Hamidin was nominated to take over FAM’s hot seat to replace Tunku Ismail who was officially confirmed to have vacated the top post on April 2, and at the same time Hamidin was also linked to OCM’s deputy president’s post as well.

In fact, many including Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi and OCM deputy secretary-general, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi had voiced out their opinions that Hamidin should by right forget about contesting for the OCM post.

This was so that Hamidin could have the time, space and energy to focus on FAM and the development of Malaysian football if he does become FAM’s new president.

Hamidin is almost certain to lead the country’s football governing body after 18 out of the 20 stakeholders are reported to have nominated him for FAM’s hot seat.

Hamidin’s decision not to contest for the OCM post sees National Sports Institute (NSI) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi and Malaysian National Silat Federation (PESAKA) secretary-general Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin as the candidates who will be vying for the post.
