KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) will put forward an appeal to the host of the 2019 Sea Games, the Philippines, to list and contest 10 sports that are the national contingent’s favourite events.

According to OCM president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, among the sporting events in question are pencak silat, petanque, ping pong, lawn bowls, rugby 7s, ice hockey, rowing, hockey, netball and cricket.

During the previous edition, Malaysia won 10 gold medals through pencak silat, hockey (3), rugby 7s (1), petanque (2), lawn bowls (7) and netball (1), with ping pong contributing 2 bronze medals.

"With regards to the 2019 Manila Sea Games, we have received applications from 10 sports that are hoping we will put forth an appeal to the Sea Games Federation (SEAGF) and we intend to do so during the meeting,” said Norza.

Norza said this after chairing OCM’s second executive committee meeting at Wisma OCM here earlier today (Wednesday), which was also attended by deputy president, Datuk Seri Azim Mohd Zabidi and secretary-general, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib.

Meanwhile in related developments, Norza also confirmed that a few decisions were made during the meeting, such as the appointment of former secretary-general Datuk Sieh Kok Chi as an OCM honorary member.

"We will issue Datuk Sieh Kok Chi’s appointment letter as an honorary member in the near future, and this appointment is as a form of appreciation for his invaluable contributions towards OCM.

"Apart from this we also agreed with the National Sports Council (NSC) to continue engaging the services of Datuk Low Beng Choo as the Perak Sukma technical committee chairperson until the Games end.”
