MBBF to investigate Sazali's claims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Body Building Federation (MBBF) will not take disgraced former national body builder Sazali Samad’s claims and accusations lightly, but instead will carry out a thorough investigation internally.

This is to ensure that no one ‘closes a blind eye’ or sees MBBF as a sporting body that just brushes aside any claims or criticisms levelled against them.

“We will meet to discuss as well as investigate claims made by Sazali Samad,” said MBBF honorary secretary Kamaruzaman Kadir when contacted here earlier today.

Earlier, NSTP Sport had reported that Sazali, who was slapped with an additional four year ban on top of the current ban that he is serving for taking part in a competition in China last month, had demanded for justice while claiming that the sentence meted out to him was unfair and of ‘double standards’.

Sazali also claimed that there were athletes who were suspended and banned like him who also committed similar offences, but no action was taken against them, with some even going on to become national coach and even a judge.

Sazali also called on the sports commissioner, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (ADAMAS) and the National Sports Council (NSC) to investigate MBBF.

“We need to get more information on athletes who compete out there, perhaps they take part on their own ticket and not through the governing body or association, and if so then for sure we won’t know,” explained Kamaruzaman.

Kamaruzaman also stressed that MBBF’s decision to punish Sazali is in accordance with existing rules and regulations.

Yesterday Sazali had to pay a heavy price for his controversial action in taking part in the China Sports Show Fearless Bodybuilding Physique & Bikini competition in Shanghai recently by being banned for another four years.

The decision to punish Sazali was taken by MBBF’s disciplinary and anti-doping committee, which means that the former 10-time Mr. Universe will be banned until September 22, 2023 instead of September 22, next year which was when his first ban was supposed to end.
