Malaysia win Asian Games silver in sepak takraw

PALEMBANG: The national sepak takraw team delivered a silver medal at the Asian Games today.

Malaysia missed out on the gold when they lost 2-0 to Thailand in the men’s regu final at Jakabaring Sports City in Palembang.

However, the team contributed the country’s first silver medal at the Asiad in Indonesia.

Malaysia’s first regu of Muhammad Zulkifli Abd Razak (tekong), Muhamad Norhaffizi Abd Razak (killer) and Mohd Syazreenaqmar (feeder) lost

15-21, 15-21 to the Thai regu led by Assadin Wongyota.

The main regu of Muhamad Syahir Mohd Rosdi (tekong), Farhan Adam (feeder) and Muhammad Azlan Alias (killer) failed to keep Malaysia in contention when they lost 19-21, 13-21 to Thailand led by Pornchai Kaokaew.

In beating Malaysia today, Thailand extended their domination in this sepak takraw event to 28 years.

For Malaysia, the silver was an improvement over their 2014 Asian Games achievement of a bronze.
