Zaidatul finishes eighth in 100m final

JAKARTA: Sprinter Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli clocked 11.61s to finish eighth in the Asian Games women’s 100m final at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Sunday.

Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong won the gold in 11.30s.

Debutante Zaidatul said she had done her best in the face.

“Everything went as planned and I was confident ahead of the race that I could do well.” said Zaidatul, who clocked 11.70s in the semi-finals.

The Kedah-born added that it was a huge honour to be in the final with the best sprinters in Asia.

“After this, I will focus on improving my sprints.”

In the men’s 100m, Malaysia’s Khairul Hafiz Jantan and Jonathan Nyepa both failed to reach the final.

Khairul clocked 10.45s while Jonathan finished in 10.46s.

“There was no pressure going into the race. I am happy. My coach did not set a target for the event,” said Khairul.
