Khaizul apologises for missing out on silat gold

JAKARTA: Malaysia’s silat exponent Mohd Khaizul Yaacob has apologised for failing to win a gold medal at the Indonesia Asian Games.

Khaizul was forced to settle for silver after going down 5-0 to Vietnam's Nguyen Van Tri in the 90-95kg class final today.

The athlete from Cameron Highlands could not hide his disappointment.

"I failed to contribute a gold, I would like to apologise to everyone," said Khaizul.

"I had expected to do better. I feel disappointed because it had all gone smoothly in the first round when I lead after dropping my opponent three times.

"But it was my own fault as I was affected by pressure from within, not by the crowd. "

Indonesian fans at the Padepokan Pencak Silat, Taman Mini venue gave their full support to Van Tri.
