KUALA LUMPUR: Get your game on, Malaysia, because Kuala Lumpur is set to host the first Dota 2 Major for the Dota Pro Circuit 2018/2019 season.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman announced that the Kuala Lumpur Major will take place at the Axiata Arena from Nov 16 to 18 – and the prize pool is a cool US$1 million (RM4.1 million).

Qualifiers, which begin on Nov 9, are open to groups from all over the world, while the final sixteen teams will battle it out for the prize.

The great news is that all participants will take a share of the money, with US$350,000 going to the winner… all the way down to US$10,000 for the 13th to 16th-placed teams.

At the launch, Syed Saddiq said that the Kuala Lumpur Major will play a significant role in raising the level of the local esports industry on the world stage.

"Malaysia is among the 'Big 6' esports nations in Southeast Asia, which accounts for over 98 per cent of esports enthusiasts in this region.

“Malaysia has the potential to be the region's esports hub because our youths are passionate about esports,” he said.

Tickets for the Kuala Lumpur Major, which is organised by China's ImbaTV and local TV network eGG Network, are priced from RM180 to RM600.

Astro and U-Mobile users will have first priority to purchase the tickets, on top of a 20 per cent discount.
