Women's team qualify for next year's Asia Rugby Sevens

KUALA LUMPUR: The national women’s rugby team have qualified for next year’s Asia Seven Series after winning the Asia Sevens Trophy in Brunei on Sunday.

The team, under coach Nik Safuan Ismade Nik Man, defeated the Philippines 10-7 in the final.

Malaysia, a bronze medallist at last year’s KL Sea Games, scored through tries by Nurul Azreen Azli and Nur Zieeyah Jerry.

“We only had our full squad a month prior to the championship for training.

“Our goal was to reach the semi-finals. However, we defied the odds to win the title,” said captain captain Rozliana Mohd Ridwan.

Guam finished third following a 31-12 win over Uzbekistan while India crushed Laos 31-10 in the Plate final.
