Malaysia will not compete in this year's Bowling World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: After much deliberation, the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) have decided not to send a team to the AMF World Cup in Las Vegas on Nov 4-11.

This will be the first time since 2013, where Malaysia won't be represented in the competition.

Five years ago, MTBC did not sent a team to the World Cup due to clash of dates with the Malaysian Open.

This time, however, is due to funding.

MTBC secretary general Maradona Chok, who confirmed the reason, said: "Unfortunately, we are unable to get the budget approval, so we have to skip the World Cup.

"The team, however, is focusing on preparing for the Men’s World Championships (in Hong Kong on Nov 23-Dec 5).

"The world meet is our main focus."

Apart from hosting the 1987 edition, Malaysia's first participation in the World Cup was in 1969.

Last year in Hermosillo, Mexico, Ahmad Muaz Fishol settled for the bronze medal.

Syafiq Ridhwan is the only Malaysian so far to have won gold when he came out tops in 2012 in Wroclaw, Poland.
