Mixed fortunes for squash players at Hong Kong Open

KUALA LUMPUR: The national men and women's squash players enjoyed contrasting fortunes in the opening round of the US$164,500 (RM689,148) Hong Kong Open today.

Both men's players Nafiizwan Adnan and Ng Eain Yow progressed to the second round with straight set victories over their opponents.

The highly experienced Nafiizwan downed Hong Kong's Henry Leung 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 to setup a second round clash with Egyptian seventh seed Mohamed Abouelghar tomorrow.

World No 45 Eain Yow had little difficulty dispatching England's Ben Coleman 11-7, 11-3, 11-5. He will play another Englishman Johsua Masters for a spot in the third round tomorrow.

"I went in very relaxed today and focused on playing good squash," said Eain Yow, when contacted.

"I played well to win and am happy to get through. I hope to continue playing well tomorrow."

In the women’s category, S. Sivasangari and Low Wee Wern went down fighting to their Egyptian opponents.

Wee Wern, competing in her first major PSA tournament since her 20-month injury layoff, lost 11-9, 12-14, 11-4, 11-7 to Zeina Mickawy.
