OCM open to assisting obscure sports participate in Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Athletes from sports not affiliated with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) can still compete in the Philippines Sea Games on Nov 30-Dec11.

According to OCM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, several athletes and sports associations have expressed their interest to be part of the biennial games.

However, Norza reiterated that they are subjected to the updated selection criteria.

"Most of these sports that have expressed interest to compete in the Sea Games are neither affiliated to us (OCM) nor are they under the National Sports Council's (NSC) programme.

"We will gather the necessary information from them before deliberating on the matter," said Norza after chairing the OCM executive board meeting here today.

Among the obscure sports that will offer medals at the biennial games are underwater hockey, sambo and obstacle course.

Norza said there is still time for the athletes and associations to engage with OCM.

A total of 56 sports will be contested at the games this year. Malaysia are expected to take part in 41 sports
