Sree & easy: Ice skater Sree cleans up at UAE tournament with five golds

KUALA LUMPUR: Ice skater C. Sree Abiraame claimed two gold medals on the last day of the Middle East's 4th official ISI International Figure Skating tournament – dubbed Skate Abu Dhabi 2019 – on Saturday.

The latest wins bring the 7-year-old phenom’s gold medal haul at the event at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to five since Thursday, Bernama reported.

Yesterday, the pint-sized skater edged Thailand’s Tanthanasin Nicha in the girls’ 7-8 years Freestyle 1 Footwork event final for her fourth gold medal; before claiming another gold in the Artistic Freestyle 1 event, forcing the UAE’s Mizuguchi Hanabi to settle for silver.

The Selangor native clinched her first gold of the tournament through the Speed Skating event on Thursday, before triumphing in both the Freestyle and Solo Camp Freestyle events on Friday.

“I am very happy to achieve this feat. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me. I will move forward (and work towards the) 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy,” she said.

Sree is undoubtedly on a roll – she raked four gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the ISI Skate Asia in Bangkok in August; and four gold medals at the ISI Asia Skate Shenzhen in December last year.
