Archer Khairul wins World Championships silver

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Khairul Anuar fought valiantly to the last arrow before having to settle for a silver medal in the men's recurve individual event at the World Archery Championships in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, today.

Khairul went blow for blow with American World No 3 Brady Ellison until both men were tied at 5-5.

But in the one arrow each shootout, Ellison managed to hit the bull’s-eye while Khairul hit an 8.

Nonetheless, Khairul has made history as the first Malaysian to win a medal at the World Championships. In doing so, he also qualified for his third Olympics.

For Ellison, who had won many other major titles, the World Championships gold in Hertogenbosch is his first.
