Prince Edward visits KL Sports City

KUALA LUMPUR: Britain’s Prince Edward was today given a tour of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City in Bukit Jalil, here.

The Earl of Wessex was accompanied by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

During the tour, which included the National Sports Council headquarters, Prince Edward witnessed the national divers and swimmers in action at the National Aquatic Centre before leaving for Gymnasium 2 to watch the sepak takraw and wushu athletes train for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

He then proceeded to watch the track and field, rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics athletes train at the Mini Stadium and Gymnasium 3 before a hi-tea session.

He also spent time with para athletes and retired athletes at the Gymnasium 3 foyer.

As vice-patron of the Commonwealth Games, Prince Edward also got to see Malaysian athletes in action ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He is on a two-day visit to Malaysia, part of a tour that will also bring him to Australia.

He last visited Malaysia in 2004.

Prince Edward, who is also the chairman of trustees for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, will be attending the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation Asia Pacific Regional Conference.

He is the youngest child of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. - Bernama
