Kuwait outing to boost confidence, says Maradona

THE national bowlers are using the Asian Championships, which starts today, in Kuwait to build their confidence for the Philippines Sea Games on Nov 30-Dec 11.

It is also a tournament for the women’s squad to regain some pride after failing to win a medal at the World Championships in Las Vegas in August.

“The men and women’s teams are raring for action, and their spirits are high,” said team manager Maradona Chok (pic) in Kuwait yesterday.

“Our men have been having a good season, so we expect them to make an impression.

“The women’s squad are feeling confident and want to do well.

“Although no targets have been set, the bowlers will go all out in every event.

“The Sea Games is the priority, and their main focus here is to build confidence.”

Rafiq Ismail leads the men’s team, also comprising Ahmad Muaz Fishol, Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam, Timmy Tan, Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek and Hafiz Zainuddin.

Sin Li Jane, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Shalin Zulkifli, Esther Cheah, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Nur Syazwani Sahar make up the women’s team.

In the 2016 Hong Kong edition, Malaysia returned with three gold, two silver and four bronze.

The competition starts today with the men and women’s singles.
