Malaysia Rugby to help tackle Covid-19

RUGBY is known to be a character building sport that espouses team spirit. Aptly, Malaysia Rugby (MR) have come up with a fundraising campaign to help Malaysians amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

MR president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said it is important for all parties, including the rugby fraternity, to work together to fight the pandemic. And helping to raise funds is one way to contribute.

He pointed out that it was important to support the front liners who are working round the clock to stem the spread of the virus.

“I’d like to invite the rugby community to help support our crowdfunding for Covid-19. The proceeds will be used to help frontliners fighting the pandemic as well as those who have been infected by the virus,” said Shahrul yesterday.

“We have to work together to overcome Covid-19 the same way we work together on the pitch.

“We are not pressuring anyone but it would be great if the fraternity could donate whatever they can afford towards this cause.

“Roughly 200,000 people make up the rugby fraternity in Malaysia, which refers to not only players but also their direct family members.

“If each person donated one ringgit, it would already be a huge help.”

Shahrul disclosed that once the funds reach a respectable level, they will be utilised to purchase essential supplies.

Those who wish to contribute, can visit the Malaysia Rugby Facebook page for more information.

Shahrul also urged the rugby fraternity to respect and follow the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“It's the same like when we play rugby. When the referee shows you a yellow card, you go straight to the sin bin, no questions asked.”
