After flub, squash's Sivasangari out for blood

THINGS certainly did not go as planned for national No 2 S. Sivasangari at the National Squash Championships earlier this month.

The Kedan-born, who was seeking her second national title, had the momentum entering the closing stages of the final but blew her chances in the 3-11, 11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 11-9 defeat to Low Wee Wern.

The 21-year-old, who has been away from her US base at Cornell University due to the Covid-19 situation since March, hopes to bounce back at the SRAM PSA 1 meet on Nov 18-21 in Penang.

"It was a disappointing finish in the final of the national meet because I was leading 6-3 in the fifth game. I got a little too eager and conceded errors," said the World No 37.

"I have learned that consistency is my biggest weakness now, and that is something that I need to work on with national head coach Ajaz (Azmat) and my coaches in the US.

"However, it was still a positive outcome for me at the meet, given that it was my first competition after a while.

"I am looking to play in at least one of the two SRAM PSA meets next month, depending on whether I'm still around by then.

"I hope to be better prepared by then in order to beat everyone else and get my revenge."

Sivasangari, meanwhile, admitted it was frustrating dealing with the Covid-19 situation, especially with Malaysia facing a new wave of cases and the Conditional Movement Control Order in place.

"Getting locked down again is probably the last thing all of us wanted, and it's frustrating because the cases went down a while ago, but it started increasing again," admitted Sivasangari.

"I'm still in constant communication with my Cornell coach David (Palmer) to see if training there has fully resumed.

"Right now, they are still under varying stages of resuming full training, so it is pointless to return there.

"But I hope to return to the US soon so that I can resume my programme there."
