Watch: A new act for squash legend Nicol

AFTER years of action on the squash court, eight-time world champion Nicol David is getting some off court scenes in her biopic — "I Am Nicol David."

The Malaysian legend, who retired from professional squash after two decades, announced the making of her biopic on Monday.

It is a collaboration with ACE Pictures as the 37-year-old looks to tell her story in film to audiences both locally and internationally.

While Nicol has ruled herself out from actually being in the movie, the Penangite admitted she will have a strong influence in the production of the film.

"We'll be doing a Malaysian casting to find someone who will act as me and I'm also really excited to get to know the person will play as me.

"I am definitely going to be one of the producers and I will have a lot of say in it because it is my story after all," said Nicol during an on-air interview with Fly FM yesterday.

"I will be looking through it with the production team to see how to put it together and I'll certainly be overseeing it from top to bottom.

"And I'm really excited for this to become a reality because I've always dreamed about having a movie about me but I didn't want to do anything whilst I was still active in my career.

"After I retired, I had time to put things together and this opportunity came along with ACE Pictures. I never thought it would be a biopic but the reality is starting to sink in now."

Nicol added that the film will be about her life story and journey as a professional squash player and the struggles of being World No 1.

"It will be about my life, from my time as a kid and my squash career from the start to the end," she said.

"The essence of it is really to highlight the will and dedication to be at the top and how I worked hard to stay up there.

"One of the struggles that I will be highlighting in the film was when I first got to World No 1 when I was only 22 years old.

"I was a bit lost after getting there and I had to figure out how to be a World No 1 on my own whilst also losing tournaments at the same time."

Nicol said the one takeaway from the movie she hopes for is inspire people to do big things at a young age.
