Passing of a bowling official

Malaysian bowling lost a key figure with the death of George Heng on Wednesday at the age of 72.

George, who served as Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) vice president from 2009-2015, was also Kuala Lumpur Tenpin Bowling Association (KLTBA) deputy president for the last 13 years.

George was the owner of Mesuma Sports, which was once the official kit for the national contingent at various multi-sporting events.

"Our deepest condolences to George's family. The bowling fraternity will deeply miss him for he had contributed a lot to Malaysian sports, especially tenpin bowling," said MTBC in their official Facebook page.

Penang Tenpin Bowling Association secretary Cheah Ban Cheng recalled George as being a resourceful and enterprising figure in MTBC,

He also revealed that George was involved in charity work in Kuala Lumpur, helping the blind, and disabled sports associations.

"He was always looking to bring potential sponsors to MTBC. He also looked after the welfare of the athletes and emphasised on grassroots development to produce new stars.

"He was a helpful friend for me when I was with MTBC (as secretary-general).

"He also ran projects to uplift the less unfortunate. He always kept in touch with the authorities in KL to help the needy.

"He had done a lot of charity work, but was always quiet about it. It's hard to see him in photos at social events because he didn't like publicity."

George leaves behind his wife Tan Yuet Ching, daughters Melissa, Susan and Maya, and son William.
