Close watch on Dhabitah

The national camp in Tokyo is keeping a close watch on diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri who is feeling under the weather.

Fortunately, it is not Covid-19.

The 22-year-old, who is making her second Olympic appearance, has missed a few training sessions since Wednesday.

She, however, is expected to recover ahead of the women's 3m springboard individual event on July 30 at the Olympic Aquatic Centre.

"Nur Dhabitah didn't train in the morning on Wednesday, but it's nothing too serious," said Malaysia Swimming (MS) secretary-general Mae Chen, also the team manager, when contacted in Tokyo yesterday.

"She is just feeling under the weather because of the hot and dry conditions here. She's better now and should be ready for her event next week."

Nur Dhabitah and Wendy Ng are the two divers competing in the springboard event.

The seasoned diver made the Olympic cut by winning the event at the Diving Asian Cup in Kuala Lumpur, while Wendy did so at the World Championships in South Korea, both in 2019.

With medals unlikely, it will be an achievement if both can reach the final against a strong field of divers in Tokyo.

The other Malaysian divers in the mix are Pandelela Rinong, Leong Mun Yee and Cheong Jun Hoong.

Jun Hoong and her coach, Yang Zhuliang, will only leave for Tokyo tomorrow.
