Tigresses begin WC journey

AFTER three 'warm-up' matches resulting in contrasting results, the national team will join their peers in the women's Junior World Cup classification round today in South Africa.

Eight teams — the Netherlands, United States, England, South Africa, Argentina, South Korea, India and Germany have advanced to the quarter-finals, while seven other teams will play in the classification playoffs.

Malaysia take on Uruguay, who finished third in Group C, in today's classification match.

The match offers Nasihin Nubli's side a chance to show their mettle.

The Malaysian Tigresses were thrashed 10-0 by Germany in their opening Group D game and held to a 3-3 draw by Wales in their second match. On Tuesday, Malaysia did decently but still lost 4-0 to India.

Nasihin is happy with his team's progress in the tournament. "We have been improving in every game. My players tried hard against India, but they were just too good on the counter, where they scored three goals. "We will take what we have learned from the India match and take it to the next game against Uruguay," said Nasihin.
