KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian girls have finally won their first match at the women's Junior World Cup (JWC) in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Nasihin Nubli's team fought gallantly to bounce back from a goal down to beat Uruguay 2-1 in the ninth-16th classification match on Thursday.
As a reward, they will play Ireland, who thrashed Canada 6-0, in the ninth-12th classification match on Saturday.
Elisa Civetta gave Uruguay a 35th-minute lead when she converted a penalty corner set piece.
However, the Malaysians bounced back and scored through Siti Nur Arfah Nor (53rd minute) and Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli (54th).
Midfielder Nor Asfarina Isahhidun Nor said: "Ireland players are skilful and fast.
"We will wait for instructions from our coach to prepare for this game," Nor Asfarina told FIH on Thursday.
