Kookaburras thrash Speedy Tigers in third Test

KUALA LUMPUR: Although world No 11 Malaysia showed more effort and energy, Australia were still unstoppable as they won 5-0 in the third hockey Test in Perth today.

National coach Arul Selvaraj said: "My players were aggressive and had more circle penetrations compared to the opening matches.

"They showed more effort and energy, and I am happy with this progress.

"However, we have to work on our defending as we gave away 10 penalty corners. Australia scored from three attempts."

In the opening two Test matches, the Kookaburras recorded 3-0 and 7-0 victories. In total, Malaysia have conceded 15 goals against Australia.

Defender Jeremy Hayward was world No 1 Australia's toast today by scoring a hat-trick (11th, 37th and 42nd minutes).

Jake Harvie (13th) and Jake Whetton (55th) scored the other goals for Australia.

The Speedy Tigers and Australia will complete the four-match Test series on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) have released the schedule for the men's Asia Cup, which will be held in Jakarta from May 23-June 1.

Malaysia will open their Group B campaign against Oman on May 23, followed by South Korea (May 24), and Bangladesh (May 26).
