Syafiq continues Malaysia's dominance in Sea Games springboard as diving delivers its seventh gold

KUALA LUMPUR: Trust Syafiq Puteh to deliver.

The 27-year-old diver continued Malaysia's proud tradition in the men's 3m springboard individual when he became the latest winner of the event at the Sea Games in Hanoi.

It was nowhere near his best, but Syafiq was still unstoppable as he registered a winning total of 381.35 points at the My Dinh Aquatic Centre.

It was Syafiq's first individual gold at the Sea Games, and second of his career after having won the mixed springboard synchro with Jasmine Lai in Kuala Lumpur in 2017.

Malaysia have not lost the gold in the event since the 2005 Manila Sea Games.

Former diver Yeoh Ken Nee won it four times in a row from 2005, followed by Ooi Tze Liang from 2013 to 2019.

Gabriel Gilbert Daim made it a glorious 1-2 finish for Malaysia as he claimed the silver with a 357.30 total, 17 points ahead of Thailand's bronze medallist Juntaphadawon Chawanwat 340.35.
