Malaysia get Swiss invite

MALAYSIA have been invited to play in the inaugural Hockey 5s in Lausanne, Switzerland, on June 4-5.

Malaysia were invited based on the gold medal won at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

The teams for the Lausanne meet are hosts Switzerland, Poland, Pakistan, Malaysia and India.

The women's tournament will feature Poland, Switzerland, India, Uruguay and South Africa.

Malaysia Hockey Confederation High Performance chairman Hasnizam Hassan said: "We selected six players from the YOG gold-winning team, two from the Junior World Cup training squad while Nabil Fiqri is a former national player."

Coach Megat Azrafiq did not want to set a high target even though Malaysia are one of the favourites.

"We will arrive a day before the tournament, so there will be no warm-up matches.

"That's why I do not want to set any targets and will plan game by game."
