AHF to get hockey back into Sea Games

THE Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) will contribute an artificial pitch to Cambodia in their bid to get hockey into next year's Sea Games.

Cambodia is set to offer four gold medals in hockey, two in field and two indoor in the 2023 Sea Games.

In the Sea Games, field hockey was last played at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur edition.

AHF CEO Datuk Tayyab Ikram said during the Asia Cup in Jakarta yesterday: "The AHF will contribute an artificial pitch to Cambodia, the same standard as the one for the Paris Olympics, to make sure field hockey is played in next year's Sea Games.

"This is one of the ways that AFH help their member countries to bring up the level of hockey in this region," he said.

Meanwhile, South Korea beat Japan 3-1 in the Asia Cup Super Four yesterday to virtually eliminate the latter from the final.

The Korean goals were scored by Jang Jong Hyun (11th minute), Hwang Taeil (34th) and Lee Nam Young (60th). Yamasaki Koji replied for Japan.
