The men's team finished runners-up in Group 4 after losing 3-1 to Canada.
The women's team, who lost to Australia 3-0 on Friday, bounced back with 3-0 wins over Maldives and Mauritius to finish runners-up in Group 3.
Malaysia, led by Ho Ying, however, will face a daunting task against defending champions India in the last eight tomorrow.
The men's team, who upset Australia 3-1 and outplayed Mauritius 3-0 in the first two group ties, gave a good fight to Canada before losing.
Javen Choong-Wong Xi Shen started off well by defeating Jeremy Hazin-Edwin Ly 9-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-8 to collect the first point.
But the Canadian came back strongly to win the next three matches.
Veteran Leong Chee Feng gave his best but went down 8-11, 10-12, 8-11 to Chen Hongtao.
Edward beat Javen 11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 11-6 before Jeremy defeated Chee Feng 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 to win 3-1.
In the women's match against Mauritius, Malaysia easily won the match despite resting national No. 1 Ho Ying.
Karen Lyne Dick-Tee Ai Xin came back from a set down to win 9-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5 against Nadeshwaree Jalim-Ruqayyah Kindo.
Alice Chang outclassed Qumehani Hosenally 11-5, 11-9, 11-4 before Karen sealed the third match with a 13-11, 11-9, 11-6 win over Nadeshwaree.
