Malaysia warm-up for Iran with Thailand win

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia thrashed Thailand 5-0 for their third straight win at the men's Indoor Asia Cup in Bangkok today.

Najmi Farizal Jazlan (15th, 35th), Norsyafiq Sumantri (21st, 34th) and Faridzul Afiq (28th) were the scorers.

In the earlier matches, Malaysia blanked Singapore 6-0 and Taiwan 12-2 in the round-robin competition.

Coach Amin Rahim praised his players for playing to instructions.

"It is a good win ahead of our match against world No 3 Iran on Friday," said Amin today.

After Iran, the team will face Indonesia on Friday and Kazakhstan the following day.

In the women's event, Malaysia defeated Thailand 3-0 in a Group B match.

Iren Hussin (22nd), Nur Aisyah Yaacob (23rd) and Qasidah Najwa Halimi (39th) were the scorers.

The team, who have qualified for the semi-finals, will complete their group campaign against Singapore on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the Junior Hockey League (JHL), MBPJ Black Widow came alive in the last six minutes to

beat Anderson Thunderbolts 4-2 in a Division One match at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh today.

Daniel Eisqandar Muhd Mustaffa (42nd), Raiss Naqib Rahman Nasir (54th), Zulhilmi Yazid (55th) and Syazrel Isa (60th) scored for MBPJ, while Disairul Fazrien Nazrien (43rd) and Saiful Sharil Saiful Bahri (44th) replied for Anderson.
