Azeem and Co take 4x100m silver

KUALA LUMPUR: Newly crowned 100m champion Azeem Fahmi could not anchor Perak to victory in the Malaysia Games men's 4x100m final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Terengganu's Hasrul Najmi Badrul, Zulfiqar Ismail, Ruslem Zikry Putra Roseli and Abdul Wafiy Roslan clocked 40.59s for the title, while Perak (40.95) finished second.

Azeem was in fifth place when he received the baton and caught up with the rest for the silver medal.

The 18-year-old said Terengganu were just too strong.

"I think we did well as a team to win the silver. I will focus on the 200m tomorrow with an eye on winning the gold," said, who has a personal best of 20.83 in the 200m.

Kelantan's Wan Fazri Wan Zahary, meanwhile, clocked 1:51.66 to win the men's 800m and qualify for next year's Phnom Penh Sea Games.

"I did not expect to win gold as I have not recorded a new PB since 2019," said Wan Fazri.

Ikbolasen Kamal Hussain of Pahang continued his sizzling form by winning his third gold at the Games.

He clocked a PB of 14:52.05 to top the 5,000m race.

"I could not have asked for a better outing than this. Winning three gold and recording three PBs in three days is my best result in the competition," said Ikbolasen, who will receive RM12,000 as a reward from Pahang for his three titles.
