KUALA LUMPUR: Despite being offered a spot in the national swimming programme twice, Sabahan Loo Yie Bing is "treading water" on the matter.
Yie Bing, who has no plans to join the national team for now, has been making waves at the Malaysia Games.
She bagged the women's 200m freestyle yesterday, and today, she pocketed the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle gold at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil.
The 15-year-old from Sandakan was, however, disappointed to miss out on breaking her own national 100m freestyle record. She clocked 57.64s while her record is 57.56s set at the National Age Group Championships in June.
"My aim today was my national record but I just missed it by a bit," said the SM Sung Siew student.
"I was nervous and my breathing was a little off, it slowed my strokes down a little bit."
Yie Bing said she is delaying her plans to join the national team as she wants to focus on her studies.
An animal lover, Yie Bing intends to become a veterinarian.
"Our family had adopted a dog. His name was Chunky but he fell sick and died last year. It was very sad. I want to become a vet, so that I can help animals," she said.
Johor's Tan Rouxin also claimed two gold in the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke today.
The men's events saw national swimmers Khiew Hoe Yean (Federal Territories) Bryan Leong (FT) and Hii Puong Wei (Sarawak) emerging victorious in the 200m IM, 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly respectively.
