Malaysia finish last in Asia Sevens

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's men and women's teams turned out to be disappointments in the second series of the Asia Rugby Sevens in Incheon, South Korea.

The men's team were outplayed 35-7 by the United Arab Emirates and 33-5 by Japan in classification matches and finished last today.

Hong Kong defeated South Korea 19-12 in the final for the men's title while the Philippines beat Sri Lanka 24-7 to finish third.

In the women's competition, Malaysia lost 17-14 to Sri Lanka and 19-0 to the Philippines to end up eighth.

Japan beat China 19-14 in the final while Thailand trounced Kazakhstan 26-5 to finish third.

Malaysian women's coach Siddiq Jalil said he was disappointed with his team's performance as they won just one of five matches to finish as wooden spoonists among eight teams.

The Malaysian women finished sixth in the first series in Bangkok last month.
