MSNT claim 'King of the Beach' crown

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT) emerged champions of the inaugural Selangor Open beach soccer tournament in Morib today

MSNT downed UDFF FC 3-1 in a rain-delayed final which was supposed to start at 4pm but kicked off two hours late.

With nine national players in their squad, MSNT were the favourites to win. They did not disappoint and scored through Riduwan Noor (7th minute), Noor Azman Abu Bakar (13th) and Zaharin Yusof (15th).

UDFF, who are also from Terengganu, managed a solitary reply via Rifaie Awang Long (36th).

MSNT coach Nazri Sulaiman was thrilled with his players performance in the decider.

"Although we have nine national players, the final was a real challenge to my team due to the heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch," said Nazri.

"But we dominated the match from the start and took a 3-0 lead in the first half before UDFF scored one after the breather.

"This is the first time we have won a title in a tournament and it feels really nice."

A total of 10 teams had competed in the Selangor Open this season and Terengganu-based teams dominated the competition. The top-three spots all went to squads from the East Coast state.

Penerus FC edged KLM FC of Selangor in the third-place playoff.

MSNT pocketed RM25,000 and a trophy for their win while UDFF went home with RM15,000. Penerus and KLM received RM10,000 and RM5,000 respectively.

The Selangor Open, also known as 'King of the Beach', is organised by Titiwangsa Fitness Club with the support of FA of Selangor and Kuala Langat City Council.
