Sea Games: Disappointed Karen eyes women's doubles final

PHNOM PENH: Table tennis player Karen Lyne Dick has set a target of reaching the final of the women's doubles event at the Sea Games here after missing out on the mixed doubles semi-finals today.

Karen-Choong Javen crashed out of the quarter-finals to Vietnam's Anh Hoang Dinh-Mai Ngoc Tran 13-11, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10 at Morodok Techo National Stadium.

The Sarawakian, however, bounced back in the women's doubles event with Tee Ai Xin.

The pair defeated Cambodia's Khiev Chendaroth-Yin Chanrotana 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 to set up a meeting with Singapore's Lin Qian Ser-Rui Xuan Goi in the quarter-finals.

"Javen and I lost focus during the final two points of our the mixed doubles match, although we played the right strategy," said Karen.

"We are disappointed as we were confident of reaching the final.

"I will now focus on reaching the women's doubles final.

Meanwhile, Alice Chang Li Sian-Im Li Ying defeated Philippines' Pescadero Dael-Angelou Joyce 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7 and will take on Vietnam's Tran Mai Ngoc-Nguyen Thi Nga in the women's doubles last eight.

In the men's doubles, Brandon Fong Jay Shern-Danny Ng Wann Seng had no problems knocking out Cambodia's Sarak Sou Pring-Soeung Tola 11-5, 13-11, 11-6. The pair will face Philippines's John Misal-Richard Gonzales in the quarter-finals.

Compatriots Choong Javen and Wong Qi Shen overcame Philippines' Edouard Valenet-Jann Mari Nayre 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 and will play Vietnam's Nguyen Anh Tu-Nguyen Duc Tuan for a place in the semi-finals.
