Feverish Jessica wins satellite tournament

KUALA LUMPUR: Jessica Keng won the PSA WSF Satellite No. 9 tournament today despite having a fever.

The second seeded Sabahan beat third seed Goh Zhi Xuan 11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 11-13, 11-7 in the women's final at Sungei Ujong Club in Seremban.

In the semi-finals, world No 245 Jessica beat Chen Yu Jie 11-8, 4-11, 10-12, 11-2, 11-6.

"I was down with fever and sore throat for more than a week. But I never gave up and kept pushing myself from the first round.

"I never expected to win my first PSA title today," she said.

Jessica, 21, who is doing a degree in sport science at Universiti Malaya, said she has been training on her own since her contract with the national team was not extended in January this year.

Top seed Duncan Lee defeated third seed Shamiel Haeyzad 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 in the men's final.

The 21-year-old Sabahan, who lost in the second round of the National Championships last week, won his first PSA title since turning professional in 2020.
