Azeem wins 100m heat, qualifies for Asiad semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Azeem Fahmi has qualified for tomorrow's Asian Games men's 100m semi-finals after winning his heat in 10.28 seconds today.

The 19-year-old raced into the lead

after 40 metres at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Stadium and finished ahead of Asian championships bronze medallist Hassan Taftian of Iran (10.42).

Azeem's national teammate, Khairul Hafiz Jantan, also advanced to the semi-finals after clocking 10.48 to finish fourth in his heat.

Indonesia's Lalu Zohri upstaged former Asian champion Femi Ogunode of Qatar to win his heat in 10.22. Femi clocked 10.24 to finish second.

China's Xie Zhenye clocked the fastest time of 10.07 in the heats, followed by Thailand's 17-year-old Puripol Boonson (10.13).

Thailand's Sea Games champion Soraoat Dapbang won his heat in 10.26 and Japan's Yoshihide Kiryu was second (10.27).
