Azeem wins Asian Games 100m bronze

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Azeem Fahmi ran 10.11s to win bronze in the men's 100m final at the Hangzhou Asian Games today.

The 19-year-old ended Malaysia's 41-year medal drought in the blue riband event.

Rabuan Pit was the last Malaysian to win the Asiad 100m gold, with a time of 10.68 in 1982 in New Delhi.

China's Xie Zhenye clocked a blistering 9.97 to win gold and Thailand's 17-year-old Puripol Boonson took the silver with 10.02.

China's Ge Manqi won the women's 100m in 11.23 and Singapore's Shanti Pereira was second with

11.27. Bahrain's Hajar Saad Saeed Al Khaldi was third with 11.35.
