Azeem anchors 4x100m team to fifth place in Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Azeem Fahmi anchored the men's 4x100m Malaysian team to fifth place at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday.

The quartet of Khairul Hafiz Jantan, Arsyad Saat, Jonathan Nyepa and Azeem clocked 39.19s at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Stadium.

However, they were 0.10s short of equalling the national record set at last year's Hanoi Sea Games.

China won gold in 38.29 and Japan took silver in 38.44. South Korea settled for bronze in 38.74.

In the women's 4x100m final, Malaysia's Azreen Nabila Alias, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli, Nur Afrina Batrisyia Rizal and Shereen Samsom Vallabouy clocked 45.01 to finish fourth.

Ge Manqi anchored China to the gold in 43.39, while Sea Games champions Thailand won silver in 44.32.

Bahrain settled for bronze in 44.90.
