Asian Games: Runner Arsyad learning from disqualification

HANGZHOU: After a track disqualification, sprinter Arsyad Md Saat wants to return stronger and wiser to help the national 4x100m men's relay team.

He hopes the relay squad will learn from the mistake at the Asian Games to be better for the 2025 Bangkok Sea Games.

On Tuesday in Hangzhou, Malaysia finished fifth, but the relay team were disqualified for a lane infringement, and subsequently Indonesia were promoted to fifth.

The Malaysian quartet of Khairul Hafiz Jantan, Arsyad, Jonathan Nyepa and Azeem Fahmi had clocked 39.19s, just 0.1s short of the national record of 39.09 set at last year's Hanoi Sea Games.

Arsyad said he made the mistake unintentionally. "I'm disappointed. I think I was the one who committed the lane infringement, and our run was cancelled.

"I take it as an experience. I will train harder to clock a faster time," he said.

At the Hanoi Sea Games, Arsyad ran with Azeem, Haiqal Hanafi and Zulfiqar Ismail to set a national record of 39.09. However he was rested for the Asian Championships in Bangkok in July because of injury.
