Better sleep and better result for Gillian

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak bowler Gillian Lim's improved sleeping pattern and reading of the oiling pattern seem to be working hand-in-hand at the inter-state Championships.

The 24-year-old teamed up with Nerosha Keligit Thiagarajan to win the women's doubles gold after rolling 2440 pins at the Sunway Megalanes today.

Nassmitha Ravichandran-Puteri Nurul Dini Faudzi of Negri Sembilan picked up the silver with 2367 while Kuala Lumpur's Nur Syazwani Sahar-Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal were third with 2350.

Gillian, who got a women's team silver in the World Championships in Kuwait a fortnight ago, said she was still a bit jet-lagged and surprised with her win in the doubles event.

She felt that the doubles win will put Sarawak in good stead for the women's team event. Nerosha had also picked up the women's singles silver medal yesterday.

"We have been playing in this oiling pattern for the past two days. It was quite tough but our coach guided us from the first game to the last.

"It went well with us adapting to the lane adjustment," said Gillian.

"Tomorrow, we will bowl in long and medium oiling, there will be two blocks of bowling.

"I just want to be relaxed in my bowling like today. I will be competing with Nerosha, Nur Aina Kamalia Abdul Ayub and Nur Hazirah Ramli in the team event, we hope to do well."

On Wednesday, Nerosha felled 1,237 pins to win the women's singles silver in the inter-state championships, finishing 77 pins behind gold medalist Faten Najhah Ahmad Fakrul of Pahang.

Former national bowler Datuk Shalin Zulkifli, who represented Selangor, took the bronze with 1232.

In the boys' singles, Negri Sembilan's Izz Naqiuddin Putera Islahuddin took the gold with 1233 pinfalls while teammate Aimeer Shah Mohd Azmi made it a 1-2 for Negri with 1207. Early leader Wooi Zi Jun of Perak had to settle for bronze with 1205.

In the girls' singles, Selangor's Nur Irdina Batrisyia Mat Aris struck gold with 1239. Kedah's Nur Anis Anisya Muhd Zaflli claimed the silver with 1111 while Najah Balqis Mohd Adzeman of Kuala Lumpur bagged the bronze with 1107.
