Mas Tigers aim for electrifying show in Shanghai

KUALA LUMPUR: eSports outfit Mas Tigers eye a top-eight finish among 26 teams in the Honor of Kings International Championship in Shanghai from Nov 22-Dec 30.

Mas Tigers earned a wildcard for the tournament following their spectacular silver medal win in Arena of Valor at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September.

The team, who will depart for Shanghai on Nov 16, received the perfect boost after being given a participation grant of RM100,000 by the National Sports Council (NSC) as well as a luggage bag and gaming phone by sponsors - and Eminent and Iqoo Malaysia.

Mas Tigers team manager Wong Kang Woon said that his charges will start their campaign in the wildcard rounds on Nov 22-25.

"We will be based at the NSC in Bukit Jalil from Nov 10-16 to train before we fly off to Shanghai, the competition will be held for almost a month there," said Kang Woon after the national flag-handing over ceremony in Bukit Jalil today.

"There will be 26 teams competing, and seven of them are professional teams from China. The total purse is USD 10 million, and we aim to finish in the top eight.

"We rushed into things during the final in the Asian Games, so this time I hope we will be better this time."
