Southeast Asia's famous sportswomen among participants

KUALA LUMPUR: Some of the region's famed sportswomen will be among the participants of the first ever Asean Women in Sports Conference which starts at a hotel in Subang Jaya today.

Among the legends are Nicol David (squash), Nurul Huda Abdullah (swimming), Shalin Zulkifli (bowling), Marina Chin (athletics), Indonesia's Yayuk Basuki (tennis) and Asia's fastest woman, Shanti Pereira of Singapore.

The three-day event, which will feature 260 participants, is organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry and the National Sports Council.

The four main areas that will be discussed in the conference are Coaching, Leadership, Active Lifestyle and Voice and Visibility.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh will officiate the Asean Women in Sports Conference today.

Attending the event will also be representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, national sports associations, states sports councils and non-governmental organizations.
