KUALA LUMPUR: Local athletes will be able to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Social Security Organisation (Socso) starting next year.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh told the Dewan Rakyat today the National Sports Council (NSC) was fine-tuning the implementation of the programme for all athletes in the country.
She said that this would serve as welfare coverage for the athletes.
"NSC is looking at the contribution to EPF and Socso for all athletes under the podium programme.
"This is a game-changer as our athletes' welfare will be taken care off beginning January next year," she said during the winding up speech of the ministry's 2024 Supply Bill (2024 Budget) committee level debate.
A total of 20 members of parliament debated on the bill earlier today.
