Recurve team hope to hit Paris bullseye in Antalya

KUALA LUMPUR: The national recurve archers hope to hit the bullseye and earn Paris Olympic berths at the Individual and Team Qualifying Tournament in Antalya, Turkiye, on June 15–16.

The men's recurve squad are determined regain their pride in the competition after failing to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics — the first time since the 2008 Beijing Games.

With a new-look team, comprising Zarif Syahiir Zolkepeli, Syafiq Busthamin, Danish Amsyar Norazlan and Firdaus Rusmadi, hopes are high on them to seal an Olympic spot.

The quartet will compete in two World Cups - in Shanghai (April 23-28) and Stage 2 in Yecheon (May 21-26) before heading to Antalya.

Archer Zarif believes his team have a chance of sealing an Olympic spot.

"Our chances are higher in the team event in Antalya, so we need to prepare well," said the 25-year-old Zarif.

The quartet have been training together since last year, and world No. 161 Zarif believes they are getting stronger after each competition.

Only female recurve archer Ariana Nur Dania Zairi has so far qualified for the Paris Games through the continental qualifiers in Bangkok in November.
