Invincible Red Giants power into playoffs

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Red Giants secured early qualification to the playoffs after maintaining their 100 per cent record in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) competition over the weekend.

The Red Giants secured straightforward 2-0 wins over Bountee Esports on Saturday and Monster Vicious on Sunday at the MPL MY Arena in Serdang Jaya.

They have now won five out of five matches without dropping a game and have qualified for the playoffs with three matches left to play in the regular season.

Meanwhile, defending champions HomeBois downed fellow contenders RSG Malaysia 2-1 (Saturday) and Todak 2-0 (Sunday) to keep themselves on course in the competition.

HomeBois' clash with Todak also set a new record for most-watched regular season match in MPL history after attracting 277,907 peak concurrent viewers, which even eclipsed the 232,500 achieved during the season 10 grand finals.

Red Giants currently lead the competition on 18 points with HomeBois in second (12 points). Todak are third overall with 11 points.

At the other end of the table, Niners secured their first win of the season after beating Monster Vicious 2-1 on Saturday.

It was, however, not enough to lift them off the bottom of the table. They are currently 10th on five points.

Week five (May 3-5) of the competition will feature a highly anticipated clash between fifth-placed RSG Malaysia and Todak, who are only separated by one point.
